Heal All, also known as Self Heal, is a hardy low-growing perennial wildflower found throughout much of the Northern Hemisphere. Known for its compact spikes of violet-purple flowers and spreading growth habit, it is an adaptable plant that grows naturally in meadows, lawns, woodland edges, roadsides, and other open areas. Its flowers are also attractive to bees and other pollinating insects.

Species: Prunella vulgaris
Family: Lamiaceae
Genus: Prunella
Plant Type: Herbaceous perennial wildflower
Zones: 3–9

Planting Instructions:

  • Heal All seeds can be sown directly outdoors in the fall or spring. Fall sowing allows the seeds to experience natural winter conditions before germinating in spring.
  • For indoor spring sowing, a short period of approximately 4–6 weeks of cold, moist stratification can help improve germination consistency.
  • Sow seeds onto the surface of moist, well-draining soil and cover only very lightly. The seeds are small and should not be deeply buried.
  • Place in full sun to partial shade and keep the soil consistently moist during germination.
  • Once established, Heal All is hardy and adaptable and can tolerate a range of soil conditions. Plants remain relatively low-growing and may gradually spread by creeping stems and self-seeding.
  • Allow some flower heads to mature and dry naturally if you would like the plants to reseed for subsequent seasons.

Other Names: Self Heal, Self-Heal, Heal-All, All-Heal, Woundwort, Carpenter's Herb, and Heart-of-the-Earth.
