Description:

White Blazing Star, also known as White Gayfeather, is a stunning perennial wildflower featuring tall, elegant spikes covered in white feathery blooms. A native prairie plant, it adds vertical structure and bright contrast to gardens and meadows. Blooming from mid- to late summer, its nectar-rich flowers attract butterflies, bees, and other pollinators. This hardy species tolerates drought and poor soils, making it ideal for low-maintenance and native landscape plantings.

Planting Instructions:

  • Soil & Location: Prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It thrives in sandy or loamy soils and tolerates dry conditions once established.
  • Sowing: For best results, cold stratify seeds for 30–60 days before planting. Sow outdoors in late fall or early spring for natural stratification.
  • Planting Depth & Spacing: Sow seeds about 1/8 inch deep and space plants 12–18 inches apart to allow room for mature flower stalks.
  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist until seedlings are established. Mature plants are drought-tolerant and require minimal watering.
  • Care: Remove spent flower heads to encourage continued blooming, or leave them in place for natural reseeding. Cut back stems in late fall or early spring. Avoid overwatering or heavy clay soils.

White Blazing Star brings height, texture, and brightness to native gardens, borders, and wildflower meadows. Its long-lasting blooms and graceful form make it a favorite among pollinators and gardeners alike.
